POSITIVE BUTTERFLIES
FOR A POSITIVE LIFE |

Caterpillars,
cocoons, and butterflies teach me about life. Too many people are
caterpillars, munching their way through life in a never changing
existence. They think that they are supposed to be caterpillars
for their whole life. Another group goes through the caterpillar
stage into the cocoon stage and remains there forever. They slip
into an unconscious state and sleep away their remaining days. A
few people wake up, break out of the cocoon, and emerge as butterflies.
Their life is full of brilliant colors and they soar on the updrafts of
God's love after they spread their wings and fly. What's it going
to be for you? Caterpillar, cocoon, or butterfly? |

ORIENTED X 3
My first year in medical school I learned how to perform mental
status evaluations on patients. I checked whether they were
oriented to time, place, and person. If their mind was functioning
normally, they needed to know the approximate time and date, their
location, and who they were. If they were confused about any of
these things, they were disoriented and needed help. If they knew
all three things, I said that they were oriented X 3.
But being oriented to life is more complicated than knowing your
name, location, and the day of the week. You can know all of those
things and still not know who you are or where you are going.
As a physician I spend too much of my time cleaning up the messes of
the Life Long Disoriented. These folks don't know who they are or
where they are going. They are adrift on the sea of life, and their
destination is a mystery. Many of these people take drugs and
engage in high risk behavior, and when they get hurt, they are
bewildered by the bad things that have happened in their lives.
The only way to live your dreams and have a good life is to know who
you are and where you are going.
I know exactly who I am, and where I'm going. I am one of God's
children made in His image, and I'm living God's dream for my life.
God's plan is better than anything I can imagine, and I'm running
with His plan.
